Tara Air Flight 197, a DHC-6-300 Twin Otter (9N-AET), left Pokhara for Jomsom at 9:55 a.m. and lost contact about twelve minutes later. Searchers located the wreckage about 20 hours later on a mountainside at Thasang in Mustang. All 22 people on board died.
The government investigation found the probable cause to be the crew’s failure to keep to and monitor the correct course while unintentionally flying in cloud, with the aircraft’s terrain awareness and warning system inhibited, leading to controlled flight into terrain. It was the second fatal Tara Air crash on the same route in six years.
