An ATR 72-500 (9N-ANC) flying from Kathmandu crashed into the Seti Gandaki gorge while approaching Pokhara’s newly opened international airport, killing all 72 people on board. It is Nepal’s deadliest air accident since 1992. Pokhara is the gateway to the Annapurna region, and many of those aboard were travelling there.
The final investigation report found that the captain accidentally feathered both propellers, effectively cutting thrust, when he meant to extend the flaps. The aircraft stalled on final approach. Investigators cited high workload, inadequate training, weak crew coordination and departures from standard procedures, and noted that the approach chart in use had not been approved by the airline or the regulator.
