Nepal Telecom switched on 4G data and VoLTE calling in Olangchung Gola, a Walung village near the Tibet border in northern Taplejung and a stop on the Kanchenjunga–Lumba Sumba trekking routes. Until then the village had only 2G, carried over a satellite link; the new service uses a microwave radio link instead.
The operator said the upgrade would help emergency response, tourism, local businesses and access to government and education services. It named the Badimalika temple area in Bajura and Everest Base Camp as the next high-altitude sites on its list.
