French climber Margareta Morin (63), on her first 8,000-metre peak, fell ill during her summit bid and died at about 7,800 metres on 11 May 2025 while being guided by IFMGA guide Tendi Sherpa of Peak 15 Adventure. British explorer Adrian Hayes (64) developed acute mountain sickness descending from the summit and was stuck at Camp 4 while bad weather prevented a rescue; Seven Summit Treks said he would be evacuated from the lower camps once the weather allowed.
The summit push had started on 8 May even though rope-fixing on the upper mountain was incomplete, and some climbers said they only learned this at Camp 3. By Explorersweb’s tally the season still produced about 95 summits in total (57 by Nepali climbers and 38 by foreigners), with a large group reaching the top on 18 May.
