Spring 2024: A Season Without a Single Summit

Event date Spring 2024 (summit attempts from 11 May)
Location Upper mountain above Camp 4
Type Season summary; route and logistics
Deaths None reported
Verification Verified
Status Historical

Despite workable weather, nobody summited Kanchenjunga in spring 2024. After a first summit push from 11 May, a final attempt reached Camp 4, but the Sherpa team responsible for fixing ropes on the final section went up and came back down without finishing the job, and the climbers behind them had to give up.

Teams from Seven Summit Treks and 8K Expeditions were on the mountain, including Uta Ibrahimi, who spent 30 days there, Catherine Vulliez and Sajid Sadpara. Dhaulagiri also ended the season with no summits. The season showed how dependent commercial climbing on the big peaks has become on a small number of rope-fixing teams.
